Growing up, my father had a collection of old volumes of fairy tales, not only by the Grimm brothers and Hans Christian Anderson, but more more obscure folk tales that had been passed down through generations in other cultures. Most of them had one thing in common: someone unassuming or overlooked went on to do amazing things. My childhood was narrated by brass wishing rings, golden balls, tinder boxes and whatever lies east of the sun and west of the moon… and I never really grew out of it. Now I kneel by my daughter’s bed and pass on tales that are older than my grandparents’ grandparents, but somehow still ring true.

Yay! a new post.
I LOVE fairytales too. I have such a terrible memory, that I need to get my hands on those books again to retell them to my children.
I just read The Princess of the Midnight Ball, which is a retelling of the Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Oh, and remember the great Fairy Tale Theatre movies. I need to get those too!
Oh look, here is the complete collection, 26 movies, at Amazon.
I haven’t even seen a fraction of these. I can’t wait to get these!
Oh MY!
Look you can read and print the entire collection online! YAY! What a find!

Also, you can buy 12 of the 13 books from Amazon, all in one collection. I’d love to get the old ones we had though. They were so pretty!
